Maura Langella

Valuing music in ways beyond performance American soprano, Maura Langella, believes music to be a universal storytelling language. A Philadelphia native, Langella began her love for music at the Settlement Music School which led her to complete her Bachelors in Vocal Performance at the Peabody Institute of Music at The Johns Hopkins University. At the Peabody Institute, Maura had the opportunity to study under the tutelage of Margaret Baroody and internationally renowned mezzo-soprano, Denyce Graves-Montgomery. Following her graduation she accepted a position in the esteemed studio of Barbara Bonney and Dr. Victoria Browers in Salzburg, Austria where she explored German Lied and spoken language at a B1 level.

In recent years, Maura debuted the role of “Neighborhood Watch” in Nick Hersh’s jazz adaptation of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel with Peabody Opera in collaboration with the Annapolis Opera House. Maura also joined Peabody’s mainstage in the cast of Massenet’s Cendrillon as chorus servant and at Baltimore Theater Project where she sang the role of Shepherd in John Blow’s Venus and Adonis.

In April 2024, through The Denyce Graves Foundation, Maura was invited to present a prepared 45 minute lecture recital at the Oprah Winfrey Theater at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC. Maura continued her love for solo performance in Salzburg where she programmed and presented a series of public and private concerts in collaboration with other local artists.

Passionate about collaboration, Maura was a member of the Camerata Ensemble in Baltimore, Maryland where she found her love for contemporary and experimental pieces such as debuted pieces by Pamela Z and Joel Puckett. Camerata Ensemble also introduced Maura to explore early musical compositions including various works by Hildegard Von Bingen. Maura prides herself on her multi genre singing and through her love for ensemble work, Maura led Baltimore's all-gender a cappella group, The Vocal Chords, to two national semifinals through her solos, leadership, and musical arrangement. Maura will debut on the group’s album “Open Floor” this upcoming Spring. Maura has also programmed a number of musical theatre and jazz works as soloist as well as live back up vocalist.

Maura currently works as a free-lance performer near New York City singing in Philadelphia choirs and teaching various genres of voice and piano as she looks forward to continuing her career across the globe. In her free time she enjoys musical arranging, running, and time with her cats!
